A test version of issue twelve is now available if you right click HERE!
Don't share the link yet. This is a test issue to iron out any bugs. Download, read, scrutinise, eat some biscuits, make a cup of tea, or coffee if that's your preference, (which it probably will be, knowing you bohemian types), look for any mistakes, let me know if it's okay or if something's gone horrifically amiss.
Once we know what's what, I'll post the link again in a couple of days time, with any ammendments made, a cover pic and some nice blurby stuff and you can share away to your heart's content then.
Cheers.
Hi Mal. Had a read. I could be wrong but I think there is a page that looks out of sync. Page 42 looks like it is part of a strip called Technofear on page 28, rather than part of The Way of The Dead starting from page 34. Is it intentional?
ReplyDeleteHeya John, although page 42 is part of Technofear it doesn't follow directly on from the other Technofear page, so doesn't matter too much which order it's presented in (Tony's contributions are usually a jumble of visual brilliance).
ReplyDeleteNice work assembling the issue, Mal. Another quality issue. I'm still trying to successfully negotiate my way through The Valley Of Klunge (Paul, you are a genius!).
I'll let you know if I spot any mistakes once I've had a proper peek at the visuals and wordage.
Yep. What David said. If the pages were very obviously following on from one another, I'd probably have done a wee bit of rearranging, (and I think I recall doing that with a couple of pages of Tony's stuff in the past), but I didn't really see the need this time around.
ReplyDeleteI've had a better look through the issue, and haven't noticed any mistakes. If no one else spots any in the next day or so then we're probably good to go.
ReplyDeleteHi Dave - there is a couple of pages out of sync. Some of the pages for the trilogy Tony and I are working on are out of sequence. they seem to be added after the section in Tony's and Dave's Way of the Dead and I have some updated pages for the two page in black and white in my section of the politicians and newspaper story Day in the Life. I have these four pages ready if you would like me to email them over to you for inclusion instead of the black and white ones. I can also rotate the page to save people to trouble of rotating them in the pdf....
ReplyDeleteIn fact I will email them over to you and if you like you can add them to the section. The pages out of sequence are: pages 37 & 38 which should come after page 33.

ReplyDeleteI've just had a good read of the test version and what a corker it is.
I particularly liked the design of the cover.
Dave - The eyepad looks to be a good match for your style of cartooning ... the Barbarian and the Droid as well as the black and white pic's to right of the second page look like strong contenders if auditioning for a new strip.
Ups and Downs is entertaining as it ever was and would look good animated.
The design for 'Breaking Even' is inspired ... i like the Retro Modern design a lot 'D
Paul - A great selection of pictures with good sense of personality shining through, particularly with the CG heads.
Have you ever thought of compositing at a random angle a bunch of figures then importing an image(to photoshop or the like)and adding additional shadow and blur/texture to add movement?
Also the possibility of pasting a figure/face onto a photographic background ? With CG the possibilities of producing a 'Fumetti' style strip are ripe with potential.
And Clunge Valley's a classic 'D
Malcom - Great pic's ... The Marilyn Hulk made me laugh and the Daffy duck pic looks particularly animated 'D
Simon - Great stripwork as ever with good pacing and a nice easygoing style that is attractive to the eye. Solid storytelling skills in abundance. Particularly with the Reflections illustration. 'D
Adam - What a difference a year makes. 'D
The 'Just what...' painting is a great sign of things to come with ... dare i type it ... the potential to paint near photo-realistic cartoon imagery ... next to the 'Charcoal Chief' another arrow in yer quiver of technique 'D
The picture on the right of your intro has good tones too, particularly the top panel.
I shall endeavour to do better labels on my sub's next time around, for the past couple of Temples i've ended up contributing at the last minute. I shall endeavour to be more prepared next time around.
Congratulations again all, on one of the strongest issues of the Temple to date. 'D
T.
Hi Adam, if you haven't already sent your extra pages to the temple address then feel free to do so - I'm sure Mal will be able to slip them in.
ReplyDeleteTony, cheers for doing some reviews (I'll do some soon as well). There may have only been six contributors, but the quality was high and the material varied. Great cover and contents layout by Mal, too.
Simple enough job making the changes. I've already rearranged the pages in Tony's section (including the bits John mentioned).
ReplyDeleteOnce I've got the ammended pages from Adam and everyone's happy that there are no further alterations needed, I'll recompile and reupload, (and then you can check that version, just to be on the safe side).
Cheers Tone. A year out to fully concentrate on technique and focused research has really helped. I was lucky to be given the chance to do and feel I have improved a lot. Back in the real world now though. A really strong issue and my fav is the cartoon of the gravity defying satire - utter class, especially with the intro of the Reaper - In stitches ;D Will do a full review of the issue when complete. I sent on the re-done pages of 'A day in life...' in full colour. It's one I sent onto the Observer Competition, though I doubt it will get through due to its nature - but you never know. ;D
ReplyDeleteAdam - did you send the re-done pages to the Temple address or to Dave? They haven't shown up here yet.
ReplyDeleteNothing at my end either. Adam must've got distracted by a shiny thing. It's very easily d- ooh! Shiny!!!!!

DeleteIt's a yahoo address now, Adam. Has been for the last year or so. It's at the top of the page. Any more problems sending, and feel free to copy me in at my purecrass account, then I can mail it Mals way. You'll get there in the end!

ReplyDeleteOhhhh - shiiiney ;D
DeleteKay - sending to the yahoo address now - ;D
ReplyDeleteMarvellous! I'm sure Mal will let you know when he receives it. Damn fine Temple contribution, by the way. A good range of styles, and some very mature artwork. I look forward to viewing the new pages in the issue when it's been recompiled.
ReplyDeletesweet ;D
ReplyDeleteThe PDF has been updated, re-uploaded and I've changed the link so that it goes to the new version. Download again & see if that's to youse lot's satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteLooks jolly nice indeed, Mal. The reorganisation of Tonys contrib. works well, and the extra pages from Adam are worth the extra wait.
ReplyDeleteYep - looks great ;D Cheers Dave ;D
DeleteA strong issue with an excellent range of styles, stories, chat, insight, skill, techniques and group ethos that keeps growing stronger every issue ;D Thumbs up to all the crew for a great issue well produced and presented. ;D
DeleteRight. Looks like everybody's happy with that. I'll come up with the blurby stuff and post some more linky things.
ReplyDeleteMarvellous! I shall attempt to remember to promote the issue, do one of them 'review' chappies, and hand out metaphorical commendations and medals of honour to all involved.
